What is Standard type xD?
The xD Picture Card is an ultra-compact memory media that has been developed jointly by Fuji and Olympus and was introduced in 2002.

The name 'xD Picture Card' was derived from "eXtreme Digital" and was chosen to reflect the excellence with which the format would be able to record, store and transport audio-visual information. The standard xD picture card writes at 3.0mb/s and reads at 5.0mb/s.

What does 'xD' actually mean?
It was inspired by 'eXtreme digital', suggesting the excellence of this new memory media for recording, storing and transporting audiovisual information.

Will Fujifilm cameras accept the Olympus xD-Picture Card™, and vice versa?
Yes, but the use of the original equipment manufacturer's cards are recommended to ensure total support.

What sizes of xD-Picture Card™ will be available?
There are plans to offer cards up to 8Gb in capacity. 512MB cards will be expected late summer 2003 with larger capacities (1GB, 2GB) appearing progressively from 2003.

xD Picture Cards are an ultra-compact 20 x 25 x 1.7mm in size. With a volume of 0.85cc and a weight of 2g, the xD-Picture Card™ boasts the smallest form factor of any digital memory card, making it exceptionally portable and convenient. The miniature size of the new card will enable development of even smaller digital cameras.

Can the xD-Picture Card™ be used to store music and movie data?
xD Picture Cards are fully usable for both movies and music, and as they include an ID, they can be encoded for copy protection.

xD Picture Cards Type M +H

What is type M?
The Type M xD was released in late 2005 and uses Multi Level Cell (MLC) architecture to achieve higher storage capacities.

The Type M xD card suffers some compatibility issues with older cameras (especially video recording). The Olympus card has marginally slower read/write speeds than the their standard card & writes at 2.5mb/s and reads at 4.0mb/s. Fuji Type M xD cards have identical operating specifications to the standard Fuji card.

What is type H?
Type H xD picture card can attain write speeds of up to 2-3 times faster than the standard or Type M xD Picture Card.

Speed is dependent on camera's on board controller & shooting modes. Fuji Type H xD cards use different methods of digital encoding but have identical operating specifications to the standard Fuji xD card

Notice on Compatibility of XD - Card Type H & M
xD-Picture Card™ Type M and Type H can be used for all Fujifilm xD digital cameras and accessories, except the products listed in Groups A, B and C below.

This card may cause interruption of movie recording at 640 x 480 pixel mode on some cameras listed in the groups below.

Type M and H cards are not recommended for movie recording on the B group of Fujifilm digital cameras.

Group C of Fujifilm digital cameras are not compatible with Type M and H cards.

For non-Fujifilm brand devices, consult with the relevant manufacturer.
